So, in honour of Oliver + S day on Saturday 18th June, we have a couple of giveaways! The lovely people at Moda have sent us a layer cake and a jelly roll from the gorgeous new range from designer Liesl Gibson of Oliver + S. Now, it's not out in the UK (or even the US!) yet, but will be by the end of the year, so this is a super special sneak peek, if you win one of these, you will be one of the FIRST people to get this. Get you. Amazing. The best thing about this fabric range is that it has all the cute Oliver + S clothes printed on it. And it also has loads of super cute mini mixer prints too. Ah, I can't wait.
So, I hear you say, what do you have to do to get a chance to win this awesomeness?
You have a couple of ways to win this.
First one is to leave a comment on the blog, telling us your favourite outing you had as a child. Was it something you did often, or just one special time? And then tell us what Oliver + S outfit you think you would like to have worn there. You can see the full lines here and here. We do have all the patterns in stock here even if they're not on our website, (which we haven't updated while we are working on the new website.)
The second way you can win is by tweeting or blogging about this. So leave a comment to let me know that you've done this and you'll get a second entry!
So in the spirit of finding out information from you, I though I should share about us. Rachael says her favourite childhood outing was Marwell Zoo (and I think it still might be too) and she would have liked to have worn the school photo dress (because of its great muff pocket) made in echino fabric as is shown on our facebook page here.
I find it hard to pick my favourite childhood outing, but one of my faves was Black Gang Chine on the Isle of Wight. We seemed to go a lot but it probably wasn't as much as it seemed. I would probably actually have worn one of the boys clothes, like the sailboat top and pants, but would have secretly wanted to wear the bubble dress in something very very pink. (I was a tomboy who had a not-so-secret passion for pink.)

Ooh exciting. When I was a little girl we lived in Gosport and to go over to Portsmouth was a huge adventure. Once a year we were given a real treat - we would get in my dad's motorbike and sidecar and go across on the floating bridge to see the fairies in the gardens at Southsea. For this special trip I would have worn the hopscotch skirt with a jumper knitted by my mum.

ReplyDeleteEvery Saturday my Dad and I would walk to do a bit of shopping for my mum (special treat for her! This was the 70s!) We used to get a comic at the newsagents (whizzer & chips) and then he'd pop in to the betting shop for a good 10 mins or so, while I stood outside reading my comic! LOL
I loved that time with my Dad ... we even did it in my adulthood (sans comic)

In the 70s my sister and I always spent a week in the summer holidays at our Grandparents in Bromley; we would make my Grandma rev up the Capri and drive us to Eastbourne and specifically Treasure Island at least 3 times during our stay!! 2hrs and 65 miles each way!

OK, I'll play. We used to spend every weekend in Hunstanton when I was a kid and I loved going to Sandringham Woods and rolling down the hills. I would have worn the School days jacket I think, great for rolling around in. I'm off to tweet this as well for you now. Oliver and S day on 18th June is also my birthday you know. Just saying! x
ReplyDeleteI would have worn the summer tea dress in a pretty floral fabric to wear to my gran's for sunday tea which was something we did every week as children. I used to love getting the special sweeties from the sweetie bowl!
ReplyDeleteOh I think I would wear the Seashore Sun Dress for my outing. When I was little sometimes on the weekend we would go a huge (industrial size) bakery that was a short drive away. They used let us go in an see the trays on trays of goods ready for the ovens and the racks of things cooling. It was the best smelling place in the world - and even better when the Canadian winter was blowing up a storm outside. We would be given warm goodies of our choice straight from those trays and it was heaven.
ReplyDeleteThis is actually quite hard (and I don't think I'm that old!). We used to go to Stockgrove Country park and walk around the lake, there was a boathouse there and I used to dream about being allowed to go there one day! My mum was/is a machine knitter and there was/is a photo of me wearing a pair of brown knitted trousers with red rings around the bottom! But she used to sew too and I think the jump rope dress would be one I'd have worn there in the summer! Thanks for the gorgeous giveaway. Bet you'll have fun reading all the entries!
ReplyDeleteEvery summer my parents used to rent a chocolate box farmhouse in the New Forest for 6 long weeks, the highlight was a visit to Christchurch and fish and chips out of the wrapper!I only ever remember it as being warm and as ice crerams always followed my outfi would have to be the ice cream dress!! I want to make that one for my daughter!

Barafundle beach in Pembrokeshire. Now it's quite popular but then it was largely unknown and we would have this beautiful sandy beach almost to ourselves. I would have to say the seashore sun dress - over my swimsuit.
ReplyDeleteI loved going to the seaside for the first time. We went to Weymouth with the family next door for the day. I was so incredibly excited. I wish I'd been wearing the Tea party sundress and bloomer set. Would have been a fun outfit for searching rock pools
ReplyDeleteMy favourite outing was definitely Saturday sweet day! Every weekend we would go to the newsagent's and buy 40p worth of sweets (hey, this was the 80s. You got a good bag of sweets for 40p!), and then try to make our sweets last the rest of the weekend. My sister was always way better at that than me - mine were usually gone by mid-afternoon on Saturday. I'm not sure I would have chosen it at the time, but I really covet an Oliver + S sailboat top and skirt of my own, so let's pretend I would have liked to wear that.

ReplyDeleteMy most memorable outings were to sit in the car in the pub car park on Sunday afternoons - Mum & Dad would collect us from Sunday school and we'd sit in a steamed up car with a bag of seabrook's crisps and a bottle of pop with a paper straw that went soggy because we had to make it last.
ReplyDeleteAs it was Sunday I'd guess it ought to be the Birthday Party dress, although I have memories of my brother and I in matching purple and orange striped jeans and itchy purple aran jumpers!

ReplyDeleteWhat a sneak preview! We used to go to a weir which at the time I thought was the seaside as there was water and pebbles. I know my dad used to regularly walk across it and I think my sister and I did too which seems highly dangerous now! 1970s- time of no seatbelts and no ideas on safety!

I grew up on the Lincolnshire coast & we had a little beach hut where we would spend almost every day in the summer. My sister and cousins & I would play while the Ladies of our family would have one eye on us and the other on their knitting.

I remember stopping off for a slush puppy whlst walking down the long high street, it felt like it took a long time to walk down as i remember having tasting all 4 or 5 flavours of slush, walking down it and back. The dress I would have loved to have worn is the icecream dress, I just love it.
ReplyDeleteA used to really enjoy the outings we had to the beach. I enjoyed everything about it apart from having to come home in a really hot car caked in sand! I think the teap party dress would have been a great dress for this occasion.
ReplyDeleteEvery half term holiday my mum and nan would take my cousin, Joe, and I to southport fair. He always left me to go on the big rides by myself, but we always had a great time. I would probably have liked the ice cream dress best.

It's full of rock pools and we saw all sorts of life in there. I'd also choose the Sailboat top and trousers (as I'm a total tomboy) in Ruby Star Rising
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little we lived way out in the country in southern Missouri. We didn't get to go many places but once a year my mom's aunt and uncle and cousin and husband rounded us all up and took up to the Swope Park Zoo in Kansas City. We would picnic out in the park and it was so much fun. When you didn't have a lot when you got something special like we did, you learned to appreciate it and remember it forever. I would have loved to have worn the Ice Cream Dress. I always liked pockets in my dresses so that would have been perfect. And since I am 61 yo, the style would have been right on !!

ReplyDeleteI grew up in California, so every couple years, my parents would take us to Disneyland. I loved it and i still do! Happiest placd on Earth! :) While my mom would've wanted me to wear one of the dresses, I was very much a tomboy, so I'm sure I would've liked the boys starfish top and the trousers because you can't climb jungle gyms very effectively wearing a dress!

When I was 5, my late Father took me flying in a private plane for the first time. I can tell you what I wore that day, even though it was 40 years ago. It was a blue flowered princess style dress with a matching drawstring bag. I loved that flight and I love flying now. If I had to choose any one Oliver and S dress to wear for that wonderful flight, it would be an Ice Cream Dress, with a matching drawstring purse!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite outing as a child was when we visited my grandmother's farm which had a castle ruin, a stream and a wood and us children would walk there and spend hours exploring and imagining ourselves on the most amazing adventures. I would have worn the Tea-party Dress and Bloomers, it would first in well with being princess of the castle!
